Blink issues statement about MTS

News / April 18, 2012

Update 4/18/12: Blink 182 has posted an update about the TOYPAJ release from Mightier Than Sword Records.  They are looking into the situation and have suggested not to buy any Blink 182 records from MTS at this time. Also, they suggested to get a refund. You can read Blink’s full statement on their Facebook page.

Update 4/13/12: Mark Hoppus just posted this on his tumbler (thanks to VC for alerting me):

“i do read these things! reading through the ask me anything section of this here tumblr thing, i see many of you are concerned about the delay in the mightier than sword release of take off your pants and jacket. i will look into it today and come back with an answer as soon as possible. i’m terrific.”

Original article: Back in late February, we reported that Shop Radio Cast had begun to sell pre-order copies of Blink 182’s “Take Off Your Pants and Jacket” over at their webstore. This wasn’t just any pressing of Blink’s 2001 album, though, as it was the heavily discussed Mightier Than Sword pressing.

The 180-gram MTS pressing, with the bonus tracks featured on additional 7″ records, originally went up for pre-order in the summer of 2011. After being bogged down by delays, MTS released an update in mid-February of 2012, which stated, “We are excited to announce that we are approaching the ship date for blink-182’s “Take Off Your Pants And Jacket” deluxe vinyl release from Mightier Than Sword Records. Yes it has taken a long time to get these finished up, but we have made substantial progress in the past couple months and are in the final stages of production.”

Along with the records themselves appearing at Shop Radio Cast, a release date of April 10th was also listed. And as you travel over to SRC’s Facebook page, it becomes quite clear that this shipping date will be the latest missed in this saga of a release.

In response to a negative comment about both MTS and SRC’s handling of the release, Shop Radio Cast’s Facebook profile wrote, “We are not a label. We are a store that sells records for various record labels. If the label does not follow through it is beyond our control. We cannot control the manufacturing of this title. However on a positive note in a shitty situation we will refund you immediately. We sincerely apologize but that is the most we can do in a situation like this. We will be refunding everyone for TOYPAJ just please be patient. The email should be sent out very soon.”

Later on, the Shop Radio Cast profile writes, “We cannot keep customers money for a product we no longer have info on.”

To further cement the point, Property of Zack reported the following, which appears to be the SRC email:

“Please note we have cancelled the following item from our catalog Blink 182 – Take Off Your Pants and Jacket vinyl. This item was set to release today, but we have not been provided with a new release date. Because of this, Shop Radio Cast is refunding all orders.

Please note there are two options for refunds:

1.) Store credit + 10%: If you take store credit we will give you an additional 10% of the TOYPAJ product cost. So if you spent $60 you will get $66!

You must email by Friday April 13th, 2012 in order to take advantage of this opportunity!

2.) Paypal or Credit Card refund: For a refund by credit card or Paypal please email and request this option.”

Now I’m not exactly sure what this means for the release. Mightier Than Sword has not made public comment about the latest development and an email to the organization was not returned. All we know for now is that April 10th is not happening.
