Weeknd’s ‘Kiss Land’ now on sale. Sort of.

News / July 22, 2013

Kiss Land, the highly anticipated follow-up to The Weeknd’s 2011-12 breakthrough album Trilogy, is now available for pre-order at the artist’s webstore. Kind of.

Although a blurb (see below) on the album’s product page indicates that a vinyl pressing will be announced in the future, only CD and digital versions are currently on sale. The site promises pre-orders they will be granted early access to a vinyl “upgrade,” which should later be made available to the mass market:

Order now and you’ll be the first to know when you can upgrade your order to get the Kiss Land vinyl. Plus, every order includes an instant MP3 download of “Belong to the World.”

While this might sound like a good deal, the Internet is already speculating about the cost of the as-yet-to-be-revealed vinyl package. Trilogy, which was released as a 6xLP box set late in March, cost $199 and notoriously lacked an advertised, hand-written autograph. Some forum posters believe the Kiss Land pre-order incentive could be used as a means to lure buyers into an overpriced vinyl package or secure early sales of other formats should the upgrade prove too costly for fans.

The complete lack of information about the album’s vinyl pressing is peculiar, to say the least. We’ll keep you updated as information is revealed.

Kiss Land will be released on September 10th via Republic Records and The Weeknd’s own XO imprint. You can watch the official video for the album’s second single, “Belong to the World,” below.
