I swear, every time I turn around there’s a new turntable at Kickstarter that’s raised $100K or more. Not complaining, just wild. The newest in this tradition is Wheel, a “minimal record player” created by Miniot.
Here, the needle and cartridge comes from the bottom, allowing you a full view of your vinyl as it spins. You can see it in motion, below.
It can be placed both vertically and horizontally (although I wouldn’t recommend that death defying placement on the record shelf in the video). It can go directly to headphones, speakers, to an amplifier or bluetooth.
The cheapest level for the table is about $600. It ships out around November 2017.
Wheel’s linear tonearm is built around the beautiful AudioTechnica AT95E cartridge. With our tonearm, the AT95E offers a warm, rich sound, and outstanding clarity and detail. For a perfect match, the entire arm is micro machined out of a single piece of laminated mahogany. By using a single type of cartridge, we can fine-tune each tonearm for damping, resonance and weight distribution to make Wheel sounds its best.
