Exclusive Spin: Struckout — Writer’s Block

Funeral Sounds has teamed up with Pacific Nature to release a split 12″ between Long Beach’s Struckout, a post-hardcore outfit, and Tomber Lever, an experimental folk group. Today, we’ve got “Writer’s Block” by Struckout for your listening pleasure. Their singer, Daniel Speer, describes “Writer’s Block” below:

“There was a six month period after the last album where I was only able to write two songs. One of those songs is “Writer’s Block” and the other is “Queer Shit,” which will be on the new album. “Writer’s Block” is sort of an assessment of how I felt having created a work that I felt really exemplified my strengths as a songwriter, and watching that work get released into the universe with a collective shrug. It’s asking the question, “Why keep doing this?” as in the whole songwriting thing, the whole punk rock thing, the whole living thing.  Why bother with guitars if they’re just going to be this ego-driven pursuit that leaves me empty? The song is probing at the question and ultimately was a sort of breakthrough that ended my writer’s block.”

The split will feature two brand new tracks, as well as a vinyl-exclusive track from each of the artists. It’s set to be released on Oct. 21 and features reversible, full-color jacket art. You can pre-order the split from Pacific Nature and Funeral Sounds. It’s limited to 500 copies, pressed on black wax.
