Exclusive Stream: Jupiter Styles — Baby Steps

Exclusive Spin / featured / News / July 6, 2018

Jupiter Styles’ upcoming album, Be Good, is loaded with chunky riffs and glorious harmonies, and the summery haze which washes over everything makes the LP perfectly suited to soundtrack your next backyard hang session.

The solo project from Chicago-based singer-songwriter Sean Neumann (Ratboys), this record also features members of Pet Symmetry, Lifted Bells and — on the album’s final track — pedal steel from ex-Pinegrove member Nick Levine (known solo as Jodi). That last track, “Baby Steps,” is perfectly dreamy, with Levine’s pedal steel swimming behind some gentle acoustic guitars and Neumann’s vocals. You can stream it below, and check out Be Good when it drops on July 13 via Other World Recordings (US) and Human Noise Records (UK).

Be Good features Neumann on guitar, bass, and vocals; Dave Sagan on guitar and piano; Marcus Nuccio on drums; Seth Engel on guitar; and Levine on pedal steel. It was recorded and mixed by Seth Engel at Pallet Sound in Chicago, Illinois. The album was produced by Seth Engel, Dave Sagan and Julia Steiner, and mastered by Dave Downham at Gradwell House.

Nick Spacek
Nick Spacek was once a punk, but realized you can’t be hardcore and use the word “adorable” as often as he does. Nick is a self-described “rock star journalist,” which is strange, considering he’s married with four cats and usually goes to bed by 9. This is just further proof that you can’t trust anyone online.
